"The term 'rare form' is applied when someone or a group exceeds expectations, or displays a side of character previously concealed (and that should be displayed more often!). I have reviewed Ed Wise and his New Orleans Jazz Band on a number of occasions, and I can honestly say that when this band set foot on stage at the Cheltenham Arts Center they were in their rarest form yet. With a rallying cry of 'Let’s go to New Orleans!' the leader stomped off a tempo launching Hoagy Carmichael’s 'Riverboat Shuffle” airborne. And with that, the band was off and running, playing to a packed house. As the concert progressed, seats were being placed on stage, as the auditorium was filled to capacity. In a brief 90 minutes, the band not only played New Orleans Jazz, but modern works, big band impersonations, and even the Hawketts’ 'Mardi Gras Mambo'" -Jim McGann, concert reviewer for Tri-State Jazz Society

"No matter what the composition, the band played with a swinging grace that showed reverence for the music while still allowing their integrity as contemporary artists to show through." -Citizen's Call Online Review

“What a great night! Ed Wise brought the best of New Orleans to the Wildflower Music Festival with a program of distinctive songs and sounds. I swear his arrangements and playing had even the graceful pines surrounding the stage swaying. Ed’s New Orleans Jazz Band exploded with talent and humor, each taking a turn with the narration throughout the show—that is when they weren’t displaying their incredible musicianship. The audience left with an unforgettable ‘When The Saints Go Marching In’ replaying in their heads. Thanks for a fantastic performance!”  -Joan Gillner, Executive Director, Wildflower Music Festival, White Mills, PA

“As far as New Orleans music goes, you can't get more authentic than Ed Wise and his New Orleans Jazz Band.  Ed and his lineup of stellar musicians left the Pennsylvania Jazz Society on their feet screaming MORE-MORE-MORE. Ed's knowledge and passion for the music are displayed on the bandstand at each and every show.   If you are looking for a New Orleans Jazz Band, look no further.”  -Mike Kuehn, President, Pennsylvania Jazz Society

“Having only been in the Philadelphia area only a short time since coming from New Orleans, Ed Wise has rapidly become the bassist of choice for a number of band leaders in the area, both in the fields of classic jazz and swing music.  He has emerged as the ubiquitous sideman and musically improved the groups he has joined. He also offers bands of various sizes under his own name, sometimes incorporating other band leaders as his sidemen, giving a true all-star character to the aggregations.  Ed Wise is willing to work in an entirely acoustic setting, unusual these days for a bass player.  He can be counted upon to assemble a band with the appropriate sound for the room or setting in which it will be presented.”  - Bruce M. Gast, Jazz Concert Promoter, Consultant to MidWeek Jazz, Jazz in Bridgewater and the Bickford Jazz Showcase

“Ed Wise came highly recommended to me by the Philadelphia music community at large. He is the utmost professional and exhibited as much on my recording. His creativity and expertise made working with him a pure joy.”  - Lizanne Knott, Philadelphia singer, songwriter & recording artist

“In May 2010, our audience of seniors was wowed by Ed Wise and his New Orleans Jazz Band; they loved his music choices and admired the high level of musicianship demonstrated by each of the eight band members.  Our program committee is already planning for another one hour performance by Ed Wise and his New Orleans Jazz Band, in response to audience excitement and positive comments after their initial concert in our auditorium.   Money well spent!”  - B.M., Program Committee Chair, Worcester, PA

“Having completed a new sanctuary with great acoustics, our church set up a ‘Music of Note’ concert series to celebrate.  The committee was very selective in the musicians asked to perform. This committee was asked by audience members to have the group back after hearing them the first time and we were delighted to do so.   Ed and his band performed concerts three years in a row.  Ed was very easy to work with in setting up and executing the programs and the music was excellent!  Should this series return, Ed Wise will once again be asked to participate.”  - E.L., Music Committee Chair,  United Church of Christ at Valley Forge

“Ed Wise (and his) New Orleans Jazz band is one of the finest of its kind. We have booked them three years in a row and they always pull a large audience.” - Jim Dorshaw, Entertainment Chair, Brittany Pointe Estates

“Ed Wise and his New Orleans Jazz band are a talented, crowd pleasing, toe-tapping throw back to the dawn of the jazz era and the birthplace of Dixieland. Ed Wise and his band are dependable, professional, and incredibly talented musicians.  I recommend Ed Wise and his New Orleans Jazz band to any promoter looking for a New Orleans style jazz band.” - Linsey Cheshire, Activities Coordinator, Shannondell at Valley Forge

"Ed Wise and his New Orleans Jazz Band "brought down the house" three years in a row at a concert series at our church. Standing ovations made it clear that everyone in the audience wanted more of his brand of great music. Ed's commentary on the history of each number and the artists who made New Orleans jazz memorable really made the concert complete. We would heartily recommend Ed and his band for a wonderful musical experience.” – Bill and Joan Walkup, concert attendees, United Church of Christ at Valley Forge

“Ed and the New Orleans Jazz Band played at our daughter's wedding, and they were terrific! Their music was fabulous and made the occasion even more memorable. Never will forget their lively version of ‘When The Saints Go Marching In!’   (and the Second Line Dance, too).  Ed and his New Orleans Jazz Band rank #1 for music, versatility, and professionalism.  We give them our highest recommendation.” – A.M., Mother of the Bride, Washington D.C.
